This volume contains the proceedings of the Falk Workshop on "Bile Acids in Hepatobiliary Disease", which took place at the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) in London, UK, on 29-30 March 1999, and was held in association with the Section of Measurement in Medicine at the RSM. The main interest in bile acid therapy has been recently in cholestatic liver disease. The proceedings of the workshop not only discusses this, but moves on to examine its possible use in alcoholic liver disease, and moves back to re-examine its role in biliary disease. Leading world experts attempt to define its mechanism of action, and the current role of other non-surgical treatments in biliary disease. The physiology and pathogenesis of cholestatic and alcoholic liver disease and cholesterol gallstone disease is also examined. 339pp.

Donaldson, Laura E.
Perhaps the greatest challenge to feminism in recent decades has emerged from the Black or Third World women's movement, which charges that the work of White middle-class feminists is often complicit with the agendas of White supremacy and Anglo-Saxon imperialism. In "Decolonializing Feminisms" Laura Donaldson's analysis aims to show how the oppositional stances of `First' versus `Third' world, and `traditional' versus `postmodern' feminists, can be brought into a more supportive relationship. Donaldson places contemporary theoretical debates about reading, writing, and the politics of identity, within the context of historical colonialism. Her readings of the work of Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, and such films as "A Passage to India", reveal the subtle inter-relationships of gender, race, class, religion and sexual practice. 175pp. N.B.
