Watkins, T. H.
Renowned wilderness writer T H Watkins offers a portrait of remote areas of the fragile and beautiful canyonlands of Utah. He gives us a panorama of majestic mountains, buttes, and mesas; forest views of pinon an djuniper and tall mountains sage; and intimate glimpses of rivers weaving through red slits in the earth. Through Watkins's exquisite visual and literary images shines his deep commitment to saving treasured wildlands that were old when humankind was 'yet ungraced by the breath of creation'. 104pp.

Edited By Dosi,Cesare
Our groundwater is a vital resource which, despite its scarcity in many areas, such as the Mediterranean, is everywhere threatened by pollution and other hazards. Conservation and better management of this invisible resource should thus be a key ingredient of any sustainable water policy. The future is bound to see increasing competition between freshwater use and users, such as agriculture, an industry that not only extracts a great deal of groundwater but also threatens it with pollution. Agricultural policies have traditionally had other objectives, but environmental considerations are starting to play a greater role, but more effective initiatives will be needed to reduce pressure on groundwater resources and to better integrate agricultural and environmental policies. The present book, written by researchers drawn from different but complementary fields, presents a review of the interlinkages between agriculture and groundwater, and a critical review of alternative regulatory approaches and policy instruments for the better management of groundwater. 301pp.

Sinha, Gayatri
K M Adimoolam's art resists easy categorisation. He brings to his work a genuine spirit of enquiry, and a continually rejuvenating wonder at the generative cosmic possibilities of art. He makes profoundly aesthetic choices, bringing to his abstract painting and apparently realistic drawing sheer, unambiguous artistic skills. Adimoolam is primarily optimistic; his paintings resonate with a pleasure in the sensuality of the medium of oil, its dexterity and movement, and its ability to translate emotion into colour. What all the works have in common is his preoccupation with presences and fields outside his immediate perception, and a graded move towards the ideal space of pure abstraction. This for Adimoolam is the vivid, magnetic other, the field of consciousness - energy or citsakti - one that is not personalised in any way, but which hints at the possibility of the deepest realisation. 104pp. N.B. Laminate to bottom edge of rear D/J slightly peeled.

Yokoi-Arai, Mamiko
Drawing on a range of material including exploration of international standards and "best practices" in banking and finance, the experience of the US and the UK in planning and implementing reform measures, and the theoretical literature analyzing financial crises and what causes them, this text analyzes the specific financial reforms in four Asian countries: Japan, Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand. Included are "lessons to be learned" about crisis detection, containment and prevention. During the course of the analysis, the author reveals fundamental policy areas where meaningful and effective reform can take place. 365pp.
