Beckett, John
This major new study of Nottingham over the past one thousand years is the most comprehensive account of the city's development ever produced. Nottingham's past is studied from its Anglo-Saxon origins to the modern industrial and commercial centre of the late twentieth century. The first part looks briefly at the origins of settlement in the area and then at the evolution of the medieval town growing up in the shadow of its Norman castle. The second part lays special emphasis on the urban renewal of the period from the mid-seventeenth century onwards, and on the development of the hosiery industry which produced, as the third argues, a major industrial town by the late eighteenth century. Unfortunately, the town grew in upon itself and became a slum, a situation reserved only slowly in the second half of the nineteenth century. the fourth part continues to the present day, examining the physical growth of the town as its Old Market Square has come to typify the commercial heart of the modern city. Although the story is told chronologically, different themes including politics, leisure and education are separately treated. 598pp.The Special Limited Edition.

Rushlow, Bonnie B.
2003 is the 100th anniversary of Crayola crayons! Most of us can remember opening that new green and yellow box of Crayola crayons in our childhood with their distinctive and familiar smell of the brand-new, waxy crayons. The author presents a rich history of the Binney and Smith Company, a chronology of changes made in crayon colours and packaging through the years, descriptions and current values, and other interesting facts and trivia about Crayola crayons. 380 Colour photographs show a wealth of early Binney & Smith distinctive tins and boxes of crayons, chalks, and paints. In addition collectors today can find artwork, toys, games, puzzles, and an array of other products with the familiar serpentire and chevron trademarked designs, as well as the newer Crayola rainbow swash trademarked products. With this book the author, Bonnie Rushlow, brings back long-forgotten childhood memories through a myriad of Crayola collectibles from 1903 to the modern era. 160pp.
